RUFC - Moore wants more goals

Rotherham United Manager, Ronnie Moore says he wants more goals, but not just from his strikers, he wants his Centre-Halves to knock some in too.

'Ian Sharps and Nick Fenton should be getting goals from set plays. There's some quality balls into the box and it's disappointing that we aren't first to them,' Moore told MillersPlayer before the game with Burton Albion today. 'And I know they are unhappy with it as well.

'We also need someone else besides Alfie (Adam Le Fondre) who's going to get goals. Tom Pope worked his socks off and has made an awful lot of goals for Alfie and while you are winning games that's fine. But when you get into a tight situation and teams are marking Alfie out of the game, you need somebody else alongside him to be getting goals as well.

'Popey's an unselfish player and I want him to be more selfish. You wouldn't have seen me passing the ball when I was around the box. He needs to start getting on the back post.

'Everytime Ryan's played (Ryan Taylor) he's looked a bundle of nerves. He's got the quality it's just whether we can get it out of him. Drewe (Broughton) isn't as mobile as Popey but he's a more physical player in his approach to the game. There is room for manoeuvre if I need to do it.

'I still believe the wingers haven't done enough as regards the quality of balls in. Same as the full backs where the quality of balls in to the box haven't been good enough to give the centre forwards an opportunity.

'But, it's all part of the jigsaw that isn't right and it's the little pieces that we have to fit into place.'

Seems to me he's contradicted himself a bit there - either the balls are good enough in the box or they aren't!
