RUFC - Moore 'game should have gone ahead'

Rotherham United Manager, Ronnie Moore has agreed with his counterpart at Chesterfield, John Sheridan saying that Monday's game at Saltergate should have gone ahead.

Referee Scott Mathieson made the decision to call the game off after a pitch inspection at 10.30am, which was only two and a half hours before the game should have kicked-off at 1.00pm.

Speaking to The Advertiser, Moore said, 'He's called it off because of an area about ten yards by twenty yards long.
My Assistant, Jimmy Mullen, was already at the ground and he looked at it and said he could get his heel in it. I'm surprised at Scott Mathieson because he's an experienced referee.'

The area in question was where covers had been placed but had blown away overnight and Moore said, 'You've got to ask questions of the groundsman too. Sheets should be pegged in and not allowed to blow away.'

Both Managers have said how disappointed they were that the game was called off but, let's give a thought to the fans as well who had made the journey to Barbot Hall for tickets and made travel arrangements which included buying train tickets, hiring coaches and mini buses. A lot of this will be money they have lost due to non-refundable deposits etc.
