'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Mullen on the weather

Rotherham United's Assistant Manager, Jimmy Mullen says that the inforced break because of the weather is frustrating.

'It's a long time since I've known a spell like this,' Mullen told The Advertiser. 'I remember, while I was at Sheffield Wednesday, one winter was particularly bad and we were lucky that we had a big gymnasium at Hillsborough, which was a rarity in those days.

'When I was at Aberdeen we had undersoil heating and matches were rarely cancelled.

'When I was at Rotherham in 1981 the weather was like this and we went many weeks without a game. It was a nightmare then and it is now. It can be a real headache trying to find training facilities to keep the players sharp.

The club cancelled training altogether on Tuesday and on Monday and Wednesday they had to use the astroturf surace which, as Mullen says, isn't really satisfactory.

'It's important not to overdo it because it can cause players to pick up aches and pains. It's not as forgiving as grass and if a player has a history of ankle problems it soon finds them out.

'The sooner we can get back to playing, the better.'

Not good when you were on a roll as it were.

Anyway, with this, Extremely bad conditions and this could lead to a fixture pile up and you can bet the FA and league officals wont extend the season to cope.Could be the opporunity to get some of the injured back to full fitness. Should we have a winter break?

I suggested a winter break too buzz. But then how typical is this weather - we could have snow anytime in England from October to March!
