RUFC - Confusion over Law bid

Rotherham United said on Friday that Blackpool had made a £150,000 bid for midfielder Nicky Law. The bid was turned down by the League Two club.

Today, Millers Chairman, Tony Stewart said that, 'We are not in the market to sell our leading players. Our intention is to keep them and push for promotion. It's a statement to the fans, and also says to the players, that we want you to take this club forward.'

Great, good on you, we were all saying. For once, we aren't selling our best players. We're keeping them together to push for promotion.

But, there's a twist in the tale this afternoon.

As quoted on our sister site, Vital Blackpool, Blackpool Manager, Ian Holloway says, ''We haven't bid for Nicky Law. I asked some questions but to say we've bid is rubbish. I spoke to an agent. I told him that everyone in this country was costing a fortune and I jokingly said to him 'I bet £150,000 wouldn't get Nicky Law.'

So, was there or wasn't there a bid of around £150,000 for Nicky Law?

If not, why would the club say there was and probably unsettle the player?

One thing though, this will perhaps make Ian Holloway more careful of what he says, even in jest, to football agents!
