RUFC - Reserves lose

Rotherham United Reserves 2 v Middlesbrough Reserves 3

Rotherham United Reserves were beaten by Middlesbrough Reserves at a cold Don Valley this afternoon.

The Millers first effort on goal was on twenty-five minutes when a Tom Pope cross found Ryan Taylor six yards out but his shot was blocked by a 'boro defender. But it was the visitors who struck on the half hour when sixteen years old Luke Williams turned the Millers` defence and shot into the bottom corner of the net past Jamie Annerson. 'Boro`s second goal followed soon after when Bruno Pilatos found himself in space in the area and shot towards goal. The ball took a deflection off a Millers player giving Annerson no chance and nestled into the net to give the visitors a two-nil lead going into half time.

The second half was only eight minutes old when Cameron Park made it three-nil after he flew down the pitch and put the ball past Annerson. The Millers did rally a little after that and Stephen Brogan had a shot that rattled the cross bar which came down for Mitch Austin. Austin was tripped in the area and Ryan Taylor scored from the resulting penalty. Taylor was on hand in the final minutes when he waltzed round 'Boro 'keeper Jason Steele to get his and the Millers` second goal of the afternoon.

Rotherham defender, Dale Tonge, out with an injury since November, played the full ninety-minutes,
