'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Chairman is excited

Rotherham United Chairman, Tony Stewart said he is excited about the new stadium and is treating it as an adventure.

Speaking to MillersPlayer. Mr Stewart said, 'It`s got to be the biggest thing that`s ever happened to Rotherham United. It`s a new beginning. It`s colossal. It`s an icon of a stadium that means Rotherham United will be up to date with all the technology that a new stadium produces today, we`ll have full utilisation for all the fans but it will have that modern input to it that new stadia have got - for instance, the catering, the bars, a beautiful pitch which will have under soil heating. It`s going to be state of the art.

'We have seen new stadiums going up up and down the country and we can tap into that and utilise the knowledge and the experience that`s modern to new stadia development.

'I`m excited because we wanted something that is iconic to Rotherham and it will be all that. It`s in the town centre with easy access and it just ticks all the boxes in every way. 'I`ve had many years in business and at this stage of my career I see it as an adventure and for me to be part of this iconic new stadium that`s going to be in Rotherham for many many years is a proud feeling and I will take that responsibility, along with the directors, to make sure that we create for Rotherham something that Rotherham has never had and looks forward to having.

'The team of experts that we`ve employed have advised me that we are going to probably take six months for planning and a year to build. I`m a realist so I`m saying we could be in there two years from now.

'In the next few days, it may stretch to a week or two weeks, no longer than that, I want to get models together and designs and feed that into the fans and see what they think and what there ideas are and buy into what we are doing and enjoy the occasion.

'I also promised that not only would we have a stadium but a full academy which would have indoor training facilities and external football pitches. And we will be able to put in place, what I feel again, is state of the art facilities that will give all the teams associated with Rotherham United a facility to be proud of as well as making sure it`s something that attracts younger players into the system because the idea is to organically grow young players into star players of the future that are going to be playing for Rotherham.`
