RUFC - Millers to invest in full covers

Rotherham United say they will be buying a set of full covers for the pitch at Don Valley for next season, to comply with the new Football League guidelines.

They have managed, or not as the case may be, with partial covers at Don Valley this season and managed to get the game on against Bournemouth by bringing in a mobile blower from The Keepmoat Stadium (though, on reflection, maybe it would have been better if they hadn't!)

Chief Operating Officer, Paul Douglas told The Advertiser, 'It was brilliant in tackling the problem area we have under the shadow of the main stand and, if we consider it worthwhile in the future, it's something we will definitely have in again.

'It's arguable that Mother Nature played a big part in getting the game on on Tuesday, but we didn't want to leave anything to chance.

'It's been an unbelievable winter. We had a very wet November and then a cold spell from late December to mid-January. When I pulled up on Saturday morning for the game against Macclesfield it felt like a spring morning.

'But what you have to remember is that Don Valley is a bowl and the cold air sits in the bottom. When I walked out onto the pitch I felt the temperature drop and the temperature didn't rise quick enough to save the match.

'That call off cost us a few thousand pounds because you have match programmes, policing, ambulance, stewarding expenses to consider.

'The only positive thing to come out of this is that the pitch has had a reasonable rest.'

I expect these covers will belong to RUFC so we will be able to take them with us to the new ground
