RUFC - Moore - Squad too big

Rotherham United Manager, Ronnie Moore says that the squad he has at the moment is too big.

Speaking to MillersPlayer, Moore said, 'We've got twenty four players and it's too big a squad. Ideally I'd like eighteen players and then work on getting loans. For me, that's how it should be.

'We need to move one or two of the players on and we've sent a circular out so everyone knows the players are available and it's just a matter of me receiving phone calls for them. We had one or two phone calls before the deadline but nothing materialised from them.'

Speaking about loan 'keeper, Jonathan Lund, Moore said, 'Jamie Annerson had an accident on Saturday. He fell and bumped his head on a paving stone and we are under orders from the doctor that he can't train for ten days. We found that out about two hours before the deadline so we were phoning around to try and get someone in.

'We knew about Lund but didn't really think Burnley would let him out. But, we know Billy Mercer really well and it was nice of them to allow him to come.

'He's twenty-one and a bright prospect but, at the moment, he's here to help us out. Whether anything happens after that we will just have to wait and see.'

Billy Mercer is goalkeeping coach at Burnley, after following Manager Brian Laws from Sheffield Wednesday in January.

Billy played over one hundred and thirty games for the Millers before moving to Bramall Lane in 1994. He later played for Chesterfield and Bristol City before hanging his gloves up to become goalkeeping coach at Ashton Gate. He moved to Hillsborough in 2004 and even acted as caretaker assistant manager for a while.
