RUFC - Douglas confident game will go ahead

Rotherham United's Chief Operating Officer, Paul Douglas is confident the game will go ahead this evening.

Speaking to MillersPlayer he said, 'At nine o'clock this morning I was quite concerned because I thought there might be a problem. But, underneath the covers you could feel that the ground was soft enough.

'It was really about getting all the snow off which was a big job. But, thankfully, we've had a good response locally for people to help clear the snow and I think we are going to get the game on.

'Near to the main stand side doesn't get a lot of sun on it so it's always a bit of a worry but even that seems to be OK. We've got heaters that we've hired so if there are any concerns we will use that.

'We met with Don Valley staff this morning and they've taken on the responsibility of the surrounding areas and they are fairly confident that they will get that side of things organised.'

Paul Douglas said it had always been his dream to go on the pitch and he was delighted that he'd achieved that today, even if it was only helping to shovel the snow away!

'It's great to see people turning out and giving their free time to do this and we've got the lads from the community sports trust who have come and given their time and it makes you realise what the club means to people.

'It's a big game for us tonight. Even if Sky weren't here it would have been a big game. If we can get three points tonight it will give us a strong position to build on for the rest of the season. Hopefully, the pitch will stand up to the game tonight.'
