RUFC - Reserves lose at 'Boro

Middlesbrough Reserves 3 v Rotherham Reserves 2

Rotherham United Reserves twice came from behind this afternoon at Billingham but lost out to a last minute goal.

Middlebrough scored on seven minutes with their first chance of the game when a Dan Hawkins shot was parried by Millers' 'keeper, Jamie Annerson but fell to another 'Boro player, Oni Roushias, who tapped the ball into the net. Marcus Marshall should have equalised when he only had Brad Jones in the Middlesbrough goal to beat but put his shot over the bar. But the Millers did equalise on twenty-five minutes when a Stephen Brogan free kick from the edge of the area, went passed everyone into the back of the net. Rotherham should have gone into the lead on the half-hour mark when a cross from Marshall found Craig Gladwin in front of goal but Gladwin mis-kicked and missed the net. The visitors were getting on top in the game and Grant Darley had a header cleared off the line by Kyle Oliver. It was against the run of play that the home side scored their second goal from Danny Hawkins from ten yards out.

The second half began with the Millers piling on the pressure which eventually paid off when Ryan Taylor scored the equaliser from inside the box. Minutes later Darley had a shot which Jones managed to save at the second attempt while Mitchell Austin had a hard shot turned round the post by the 'Boro 'keeper. The game became scrappy then with neither side being able to get shots in. And it looked like it was going to be a point each until the second minute of time added on when a Millers defender was penalised for high-kicking in the box and the home side were awarded with a penalty which James Gray scored the winner from.
