'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Ref Webb thanks Chairman

Rotherham United supporter, and one of England's top Referees, Howard Webb wants to say 'thank you' to Millers Chairman, Tony Stewart.

Speaking to David Beddows of The Advertiser after the defeat at Don Valley to Port Vale, Howard said, 'Firstly, I want to say how grateful I am to Tony Stewart for bringing the club to where we are now. It's an amazing achievement and he deserves massive credit.'

Like most Millers' fans, Howard isn't a big fan of Don Valley saying, 'Don Valley is a place to go to keep the club going but we are looking forward to getting away.

'The groundstaff work hard but the pitch is not conducive to good football. But we have to play on it about twenty-three times a season - other teams only have to play on it once. You can see the ball travel fifteen yards and bobble five times. How can that give you any confidence when you're on the ball? Talking to the officials on Saturday, they said how hard it is to keep your footing.'

We understand that the land has now been bought for the new stadium and planning permission has been sought, though, that shouldn't be much of a problem I wouldn't have thought.

'As Rotherham fans,' Howard said, 'we've taken a bit of a battering over time, but, whatever happens, we always stick together.

'The sooner we get to another dedicated pitch and get some atmosphere back the better.'
