'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Chairman 'Exciting Times'

Rotherham United Chairman, Tony Stewart told Les Payne of The Star that these are 'exciting times' as the plans were unveiled of the new ground for the first time last night.

The plans suggest the new ground will be enclosed, with the Main stand being higher than the other three sides.

The plans can be viewed in Rotherham Central Library and will also be in this evenings Matchday Programme at Don Valley.

'After all the talking, these plans enable our supporters and the people of Rotherham to see something.

'This stadium is something the town needs and will give the club the opportunity to be able to compete with Barnsley, Doncaster and Chesterfield with their new stadium.'

Karl Battersby, the Council's Director of Environmental Development Services, said, 'This is more than just about football, it is about civic pride and being an asset to the town.'

Fans and the people of the town will be canvassed for their views and opinions, specifically those related to site aspects which include vehicle access down Don Street and pedestrian access plans.

The planning application for the new development will go in at the end of May.
