RUFC - Don Valley Pitch in better condition

Rotherham United`s Head Grounds man, Jim Davison says that over the last few weeks the pitch at Don Valley has improved beyond recognition.

Speaking to MillersPlayer, Jim said, 'Over the last few weeks, Don Valley, and ourselves have worked tirelessly to improve the bad areas. We`ve put a product in called Profile which has been a big, big help on the pitch. But, there are still a lot of areas that we`ve got to improve for grass cover, but we`ve got a better pitch than we had two months ago.`

Before the game on Saturday, the ground staff watered the pitch, and Jim said, 'We don`t want a dry pitch, for obvious reasons, and we put plenty of water on before the Northampton game which, we think, had an effect. So, we did that again, especially in the damaged area to try and dampen it down and dust it off a little bit.

Asked about his ritual and his jobs on match days, Jim replied, 'Before a game, I like to cut the grass and we have to titivate the white lines and make sure the nets are up as well as being in charge of the portable nets. We`re also in charge of the Advertising Boards which, because it`s someone else`s stadium, have to be rolled in and out on a match day.`
