'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Football League Unhappy with Premier League

The Football League are unhappy with the Premier Leagues plans which will change the distribution of money to the seventy-two League clubs, including parachute payments.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Chairman, Greg Clarke said that 'certain issues need clarifying' before they vote to increase distribution of payments to sides relegated from the top flight from £24m over two seasons to £48m over four.

'There is a certain unhappiness about a four-year parachute payment with some clubs thinking it would distort competition,' Mr Clarke said.

As we discussed on our board yesterday, in my opinion, this, in effect, is just going to make a 'second premier league' and, eventually the 'little clubs', such as Rotherham United, are going to be pushed out in the cold as the gap between the top two leagues and the bottom two widens.

Gone are the days when the clubs in the lower leagues were feeder clubs to the big boys - now the big boys can afford to go abroad and pick and chose who they want. Maybe they should remember how it used to work - but, I can't see it ever going back to that, can you?
