RUFC - Alfie Praise for Fans

Rotherham United`s top scorer, Adam Le Fondre took the club a step closer to Wembley yesterday at the EBB Stadium when he scored the only goal of the game.

Speaking after the win to MillersPlayer, Alfie said, 'I`m really pleased I scored a goal from open play, it`s the first in about ten games and I`m getting close to my thirtieth goal, which is what I want.

'Today was about hard work and team work and getting a result here. We`ve done that and I got my chance and I took it and I`m really happy with that. '

After spending some time out on loan at Exeter, Ryan Taylor started up front with Le Fondre today and Alfie said, 'Tayls was quality today. He was big and strong and he looks like he`s come back a brand new player from Exeter. He`s a big lad and if he wants something doing this way or that he`ll tell you and I think that`s what he should be doing.

'At this level I don`t think there`s any defender that`s capable of keeping me quiet for ninety minutes although, obviously, the big defenders will push me aside now and again, but I just brush it off and try and get chances. '

Talking about the goal, which was a defensive error from the home side, he said, 'I`m not going to turn down a gift like that. I want to get to the thirty mark and it would be great to send us to Wembley with my thirtieth.

'We know it`s going to be a hard game at Don Valley on Wednesday but we`ve got to go with the same work effort and I`m sure the result will take care of itself. They`ll come at us because we`ve got the goal but we`ve got to treat it as a nil-nil and get at them on the counter break. '

After Alfie had scored the late winner at Aldershot he ran straight to the corner of the pitch to where the Millers fans were singing his name and he had nothing but praise for the fans, 'The fans have always been good on away games and they were brilliant today.`
