RUFC - Sharps 'Come and support us on Wednesday'

RUFC - Sharps 'Come and support us on Wednesday'

Rotherham United`s skipper, Ian Sharps admitted, after the one-nil win at Aldershot yesterday, that maybe the home side deserved to draw.

Speaking to MillersPlayer the former Tranmere Rovers defender said, 'We`ve got the advantage going into the second leg but it`s by no means over. But, we smashed the winner near the end and its good getting something here.`

Sharps, who was playing with a black eye after a training ground injury carried on saying, 'It was a great finish from Alfie (Adam Le Fondre) who is a poacher. I didn`t really see the back pass that led to the goal because I was sorting something out at the back. I turned round and he was clean through.`

Talking about the back four, Sharps said, 'I don`t think we had too much to do today, maybe a few scraps at the end and there was one first half effort where we lost it in the sun. But, I think, we all did our jobs perfectly today and any clean sheet is a good display.

'I think Fenners (Nick Fenton) deserved the Man of the Match today. He`s been good all season and I think we`ve formed a good partnership in general. It`s good to keep a clean sheet and it`s not just up to me and Fenners. We`ve got Gav (Gavin Gunning), Lynchy (Mark Lynch) and Woggy (Andy Warrington) who have also worked hard and it`s good to come away with a win.`

Speaking about Gavin Gunning, who made a great last-ditch tackle in the first half, Sharps said, 'He`s covered well for us there and played well today.

'The support was good today and very loud matching Aldershot. Hopefully we`ll get thousands there on Wednesday to try and cheer us on because the more support we can get the better it will be.`
