Rotherham United striker, Ryan Taylor spoke to MillersPlayer after the team had beaten Aldershot in the first leg of the play-offs yesterday, saying that going out on loan and playing for Exeter City had given him that 'extra edge` to his game.
The twenty-two year old came straight back into the team yesterday to partner top goal scorer, Adam Le Fondre, up front and, I thought, he had an excellent game.
Speaking about his time with the Grecians, Taylor said, 'I`ve got a few games under my belt and it was a great experience for me. Before I went I wasn`t really in the squad here so going there has given me that extra confidence and hopefully you saw it in my game today
'I`ve played ninety minutes today and I can`t remember the last time I did that for Rotherham so going to Exeter has added something to my game. I feel fitter and hopefully I can get another ninety minutes on Wednesday and get to Wembley.`
Asked what Manager, Ronnie Moore said to him before the game, Taylor answered, 'Basically, he said carry on doing what you`ve been doing at Exeter and just keep things simple which I tried to do today.
'Their two centre halves are big lads and I think me and Alfie did well all game putting pressure on them which paid of in the end. They made a mistake and we got the goal. As defenders, in this league, get tired, they tend to make more mistakes and with me and Alfie putting pressure on them for ninety minutes in the end they were always going to make that mistake and then a great finish from Alfie which, hopefully, can get us to Wembley.
'I mean, the job isn`t done yet but it`s a great building block to take Don Valley and hopefully we can take this performance into Wednesday and it can take us to Wembley.`
Talking about himself, Ryan says he has another year on his contract at Rotherham and is happy to be there but is concentrating getting the Millers to Wembley. 'That would be massive for my career,` he said. 'And, as a player, you`ve always got a point to prove but, I haven`t had the best of years so I feel I especially have a point to prove but I`ve got confidence in my ability and I think I can do well.`
