RUFC - Application for ground to go in next week
Rotherham United are hoping that planning permission for their new stadium will be granted before the start of next season.
The Millers have to be back in Rotherham within the next two years and are building a new stadium at the old Guest and Chrimes site, which is just down the road from their old home at Millmoor.
The application for the new ground will go in at the end of next week and Chairman, Tony Stewart told The Advertiser, 'hopefully, we will know the result of that by mid-August and then we can get the spades out and start digging.'
Meanwhile, discussion with Corus about buying their Roundwood site, where the team are currently training, are still taking place.
'Ronnie Moore loves it there,' Mr Stewart said of Roundwood, 'it's friendly, private and central and better than other areas we've looked at.'
Mr Stewart then went onto praise the Council for their help with the club and in particular, Councillors, Roger Stone and Martin Kimber saying they are the dynamic. 'They make things happen,' Mr Stewart said, 'and with regards to football I can't fault them. They don't just sit o the fringes, they actively participate, which makes my life a lot easier.'
