RUFC - Moore wants Cresswell

Rotherham United Manager, Ronnie Moore has been weilding the axe at the club since losing at Wembley in the Play-Off Final.

Gone are eight of the playing squad, while two, Ian Sharps and Danny Harrison are mulling over new contract offers with Paul Warne signing a years extension.

Moore made no secret of the fact that he wanted to bring in his own squad of players and has told David Beddows of The Advertiser that he would like to bring in Rotherham born defender Ryan Cresswell.

Of the players Moore has 'dismissed' he says that the hardest decision he had was over Pablo Mills, saying, 'Pablo has been here for four years and has done a great job. But, as one of the highest earners, we can use that finance to bring in someone else.

'I'd like to thank all the released players for their efforts and wish them all the best. No-one stormed out when I told them.'

With the Millers missing out on promotion, it seems that one or two of Moore's targets have opted not to come with the manager saying, 'We're halfway down the list already because the best players have already been picked off. One problem of getting to Wembley is that you're three weeks behind.

'The Chairman has given me a similar budget to last year which is a decent one but, with twelve players still on the books, that cuts down your options. And, to be fair, the Chairman has told me if we need to pay a reasonable fee for someone, he'll consider it.

'I'm looking for quality rather than quantity and Cresswell is the right calibre. He's a leader and I'd like him here but other clubs want him too.'

Moore also wants to offer a contract to Marcus Marshall who has been on loan with the Millers from Blackburn Rovers since January.
