'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - A look back in the archives...

On This Day - 5th June

2009
On this day last year, then Millers Manager, Mark Robins said he was 'made up` that Tom Pope had made a decision to join the Millers. 'I knew he was the man for us,` Robins said of the striker who had just cost Rotherham £150,000 from Crewe.
Pope himself said he had been frustrated at Crewe saying that he never got any encouragement there.
Pope joined new boys already signed, Kevin Ellison and Jamie Annerson.

On this day last year Chairman, Tony Stewart was reflecting on his year in charge of the club saying, 'In the past twelve months I have seen a lot and learned a lot but I haven't learned everything but the challenges here don`t frighten me.`

Also on this day, John Breckin, Nick Daws and Denis Circuit all signed new three year contracts - which proves what a load of baloney contracts are.

2008
It was on this day two years ago that then Manager, Mark Robins, was urging the Rotherham fans to follow the team to Don Valley saying that the move is temporary. He also said that the club have to be in a position to be able to make sure the playing surface at Don Valley is good enough so that 'we aren`t embarrassed when entertaining other clubs.` - Hmmmm

Talking about moving to Don Valley, the Eagles, for who Don Valley was 'home` at that time, said that they would make the ground share work.

2007

It was on this day in 2007 that top scorer for the Millers, Martin Woods moved across South Yorkshire to Doncaster Rovers after using a clause in his contract that said he could move on a free if Rotherham were relegated. A Doncaster Rovers club official said, 'we have pulled out the biggest of coups.`

Three years ago today, the Red and White shop was selling, once again, the Millermen CD, costing £5. Or if you wanted one signed by Mark Robins that was an extra £1 and for £8 you could have one personalised.

2006

Four years ago today, the Millers then Manager, Alan Knill was showing an interest in signing Pablo Mills from Derby County.
