'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Newey Optimistic

Rotherham United's new left-back, Tom Newey has told Dom Howson of The Star, that he is delighted to be returning to his roots.

Twenty-seven year old Newey was brought up in Aston, Sheffield and said that, 'Ronnie Moore said he'd known about me for some time and that left-back was a position they were trying to fill.'

Newey, like Ryan Cresswell, has joined the Millers from Bury and said he thought that Rotherham looked a strong side when they played them last season.

'I saw a bit more potential at Rotherham and I know the area well and am excited with the plans the club has for the future.

'It's always exciting when you sign for a new club and I can't wait for pre-season to come round.

'We've got a strong squad here and there's plenty of people who can score goals. I am very optimistic and I don't think we will be too far off promotion.'
