RUFC - Jim says that the DV pitch is 'superb'

Rotherham United`s head grounds man, Jim Davison says that it doesn`t seem two minutes since the Millers were entertaining Aldershot at Don Valley in the play-offs.

Speaking to MillersPlayer about the pitch, Jim said, 'It`s been eight weeks since then and we`ve had a lot of work done to the pitch.

'As you know, we`ve had problems over the last couple of years but because SIV (Sheffield International Venues) and the contractors have got their heads together and worked out where the problems lie I think they are now solved. In fact, SIV have put their money where their mouth is and done us proud.

'We`ve had between one and two inches of top surface taken away and we`ve re-seeded straight into the existing eighty/twenty root zone which this pitch is constructed of.

'This is the best pitch since we`ve been under SIV control at Don Valley with Rotherham United that we`ve had in fact, it`s absolutely superb. And I want to thank my own ground staff and the SIV ground staff for putting it together.`

Jim said there is still work to be done before the opening game against Lincoln City,
'We`ve had a bit of a problem with leaf spot which is a problem you do get with infantile grass and it was sprayed with a fungicide and now there`s an intensive fertiliser programme going to be introduced which will toughen it up and give us a superb playing surface.

'It`s been hard work but hopefully this season we`re going to have a pitch to be proud of.`

I've got to say that at the Sheffield United friendly game the pitch looked to be in a really good condition.
