RUFC - Q & A with an Imp!

Rotherham United entertain Lincoln City on Saturday at Don Valley and we have asked The Imposter from Vital Lincoln a few questions

Name/User Name.....
The Imposter

How long have you been supporting the Imps?
Since 1979 - my first game was a 1-1 draw at home to Bournemouth, with Tony Cunningham scoring for the Imps.

What made you decided 'Lincoln` was the team for you?
My local team, obvious choice.

Favourite ground ever been to
Probably the Millennium Stadium for the two play-off finals. Sad as this may sound, I was also mightily impressed by Selhurst Park back in the 90s when we played them in the Cup. It just seemed such a big ground, due to the fact the pitch seemed such a long way from the back of the terraces.

Ground you hate going to
Blundell Park. Awful ground, awful town, awful fans. Harks back to the bad old days of the 70s and 80s - you are always a little fearful of your safety whenever you go there, due to the history of the two clubs.

Will there be any new grounds for you to visit this season?
A few and obviously Stevenage stands out as the Football League debutants. Chesterfield have a new ground - at long last - as well as Morecambe, so a couple more new ones there.

Have you any rituals before a game?
No (although I suppose get there before they kick-off could be one).

If there was one Lincoln player you could fetch back from the past to play now, who would it be?
A tricky choice to only pick one and after much deliberation I would opt for Glenn Cockerill. A midfield maestro for the Imps in the late 70s and early 80s, one of a bunch of class acts from that era. Went on to play at the top level with Southampton and one of the best players I have seen in a Lincoln shirt.

Is there any player you`ve ever felt sorry to see leave?
Tony Lormor. One of those 100 per cent players who gave everything to the cause and always acknowledged the fans. Had a good goal scoring record, but sadly he suffered a bad injury and was farmed out on loan before eventually being released. I always thought he was wrongly shown the door and so it proved as he came back to full fitness not long later and banged in the goals for Chesterfield and Mansfield. He could have been a true City legend if they had been patient with him.

How you think the Imps will fair this season?
I think we are a goal scorer away from the play-offs. Not yet convinced that Gavin McCallum is the striker we should be pinning our hopes on, but we have signed some quality players this summer - especially in Mustapha Carayol and Albert Jarrett - and we should carry a big threat going forward, whether we take our chances is another matter. I think Drewe Broughton will be vital for us and have been impressed with him in pre-season.

Can you remember any games between the Imps and the Millers?
I honestly cannot recall any games between the two. I probably have seen them play each other, but the old memory isn't what it was.

Which Lincoln players should we be looking out for?
Definitely Carayol, he has been a revelation in the pre-season friendlies, while I think Broughton will have a point to prove and will be a handful. Jarrett is also looking good on the wing, while midfielder Josh O'Keefe will give City an added dimension in midfield. Adam Watts is back from a broken leg and he will give his all at centre-back.

Score on Saturday?
A victory may be beyond us, but I reckon we could hold out for a point in a 1-1 draw.

Thanks for taking time to answer these for us The Imposter. I hope any Imps fan coming to Don Valley will have a good day out.
