Grant began refereeing in Hertfordshire at the age of fifteen and was promoted to the National List of Assistant Referees in 1992. Seven years later he was an Assistant Referee for the Football League Trophy Final at Wembley. In 2001 he was promoted to the National List of Referees.

Last season Grant was in the middle for our game at Meadow Lane when a goal, a minute from time, from Luke Rodgers, gave the home side all three points.

That day, yellow cards were shown to Hughes, Rodgers and Thompson from the home side and Danny Harrison from the Millers.

Last season, Grant was in charge of thirty six games showing forty yellow cards and just one red, which was to Barnsley 'keeper, Luke Steele.

On Saturday, Grant was in the middle at the Charlton v Bournemouth game where he showed three yellows and one red.
