RUFC - Holden here to play

Rotherham United loanee, Dean Holden says he doesn`t intend, at this stage of his career, to be sitting on the bench.

Speaking to The Advertiser, the thirty-year old, on loan from Shrewsbury said, 'Initially, Graham Turner (Shrewsbury Manager) said no to the idea of me coming out on loan. But, eventually, it was agreed that it would benefit both me and the team because I could get some match practice.`

After finishing the last few games of last season with the captain`s armband at the New Meadow, the former Peterborough defender found it hard to only get two ten minute`s slots in the pre-season games and said that he thought he wasn`t being given a chance there. 'I spoke to Graham Turner and told him that I was experienced enough to know that new managers brought in their own players but what really stuck in my throat was that he didn`t even give me a chance to hang onto my place.

'Saying that, I`ve not given up on Shrewsbury but at thirty years old I need to be playing games. I`m in my last year of my contract and I`m not going to sit on the bench at this stage of my career, no way. I`ve had some bad injuries in my career but I`m fit and strong at the moment and will keep going.

'I`m glad I talked the boss into the move to Rotherham because it`s a great chance for me and they are classed as one of the favourites in this division.`
