'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Annerson enjoyed Tuesday night

Rotherham United`s Reserve goalkeeper, Jamie Annerson finally got another chance in the first team on Tuesday night - after nearly three years - and said he 'enjoyed it.`

Speaking to David Beddows of The Advertiser, the twenty-one year old said, 'I really enjoyed it. I just wanted it to go well. The lads in front of me were brilliant and I kept a clean sheet.`

With Andy Warrington being in such good form since he came to the Millers, Jamie has spent all his time on the bench but got his chance in the Johnstone`s Paint Trophy game on Tuesday due to a Warrington injury.

'It`s my first senior game since I signed permanently last year,` the former Sheffield United player said, 'and it was a quiet night for me. It`s nice when it`s like that because you can feel your way into the game a bit.

'Ryan Cresswell (the Millers` skipper!) tested me a bit with a chest back but I think he just wanted to give me something to do! I think it was the only save I had to make in the game. But, obviously, a major part of goalkeeping is keeping your concentration.

'Reserve games are all well and good for keeping your match sharpness ticking over but they can`t compensate for playing a proper first team fixture in front of a crowd. I learnt a lot more the other night than I probably would in six reserve games.`

It`s just a pity there weren`t more people to see the game on Tuesday night - but there never has been a lot of interest in this trophy from Millers fans. Until we get to the final of course!
