Rotherham United Reserves 5 v Lincoln City Reserves 0
Rotherham United Reserves dominated this game at Don Valley this afternoon and in the opening minutes, trialist, Jeremiah Ani had a shot on goal from twenty yards out that had Paul Musselwhite, in the visitors` goal, sprawling to make a save. Musselwhite was kept busy by the Millers and made great saves from Tom Pope and Stephen Brogan before Kern Miller had the Imps first shot on goal on twenty-five minutes which was well saved by Jamie Annerson. Annerson was in the thick of the action minutes later when he pulled off another good save from Sam Turner. Pope and Ani were playing well together up front for the Millers and a Pope flick on for Ani had to be smothered by Musselwhite to stop the Millers going into the lead. Veteran Musselwhite did well again ten minutes before half-time when Marcus Marshall skipped into the penalty area and had a shot at goal. In the final minute of the half the deadlock was broken with the Millers getting a corner and Mark Bradley found Luke Ashworth who headed the ball into the back of the net.
In the opening minutes of the second half both teams could have scored but Pope saw a shot go wide while Annerson did well to palm a Turner effort away from goal. The second goal came on the hour mark when Marshall again did well and found himself free to shoot from twenty yards out and saw the ball go into the top corner of the net. Jamie Green got the third, after having his initial shot saved by Musselwhite he slotted the re-bound home on sixty-five minutes and seven minutes later, Pope curled the ball into the area for Ani who put the ball beyond the diving Musselwhite. In the final ten minutes, a cross from Bradley found Pope and the tall striker headed the ball into the net for the fifth goal.
