Rotherham United Reserves beat Lincoln City Reserves five-nil yesterday afternoon at Don Valley and afterwards, Andy Liddell, who has been helping out with the coaching this season, was happy with the side.
'I wasn`t too impressed with the first fifteen minutes,` Lids told MillersPlayer after the game, 'but after that I can`t fault them.
'We`ve got a big squad here so we`ve obviously got a good reserve team, but we probably won`t be able to keep it like that because some of the players who are playing for our reserves and not in the first team will probably want to go and play for somebody else`s first team. And, those who do have only impressed today. We`ve got some players who are too good for reserve team football and they`ve been proving that.`
Andy was asked about striker, Tom Pope who`s been out of the first team with a broken foot, and he said, 'He`s ready to go now. I`ve had him doing some track work and done some individual work with him down at Don Valley and he`s had two ninety minutes, played well and scored two goals last week and a goal this week.`
Before the game, Manager, Ronnie Moore, had implied that striker, Ryan Taylor, might have played some part in the Reserve game, but, he didn`t and Andy said, 'He spoke to the manager and he decided he probably needs some more training before he joined in. Hopefully, he`ll join in next week. He`ll be doing some individual stuff round the track for me next week, he did some last week and said he felt the benefit from it.`
Asked how he was enjoying his role as Reserve team Manager Andy said although he enjoyed it he thought it was a lot harder work than playing. It`s experience for me because I want to get on this side of the game. I want to learn, help the players and get better at doing it.`
