RUFC - Tongey on his road to fitness

Rotherham United defender, Dale Tonge is hoping to get the 'all clear' next week when he goes for, what he hopes, is the last scan on his broken foot.

Speaking to MillersPlayer the former Barnsley player said, 'I hope the specialist will give me the all-clear next week and I can start running and get back into it.

'This is the third time I've had this sort of injury and in the time period this one is feeling a lot better than it did the last twice and I'll be very surprised if he doesn't give me the all-clear next week. Then, within a few weeks I'll be running properly and back into training. I'm one of those lads who likes getting out on the training pitch and loves playing and it's been a nightmare to be honest. You've just got to keep yourself going and I've been going to the gym and had a few holidays. It's been good this last few weeks because I've been back in amongst the lads.'

Tonge was asked about the three injuries he's had on the same foot and he said, 'The first time it was a stress fracture which never quite healed and then I had a proper fracture and now I've opened up a previous fracture but this time I've had a pin in it and I've also had a bone graft off my hip which they've packed in with the pin which will make it as strong as it ever could be. So, hopefully all's well and I'll be back playing before Christmas. But that all depends on what happens a week today and then get running and a few reserve games in and then start to push for a first team place.'
