RUFC - Mullins 'I had a shocker but not a pen'

Rotherham United defender, Johnny Mullins had a 'shocker` against Wycombe last Saturday and he admits it - although he insists he was not to blame for the penalty that was given against him.

Speaking to The Advertiser the former Stockport County player said, 'At the time I didn`t think it was a penalty and I still don`t.`

We`ve talked about this penalty all week, and there is a photo in The Advertiser of angry Millers fans pointing fingers and booing Referee Peter Quinn as he walks off the pitch down the tunnel at Don Valley. No one in the ground thought it was a penalty - except one man, and he was the one who counted.

'I was gutted,` Mullins said. 'The linesman clearly told the referee that I`d won the ball but the ref is the one who makes the decisions and I guess I gave him a decision to make. It`s a strange one but I`m not going to have a go at the referee. I`d rather look at my own performance which was shocking.

'Betsy gave me the run-around but everyone has bad days and I`ve got to learn from it and move on.`

Admitting that he is disappointed with the amount of goals the team are conceding Mullins said, 'We are fine scoring goals but we`re conceding too many at Don Valley which is something we have to address quickly.`

The Millers have conceded eighteen goals so far in this season`s campaign - thirteen of which have been at Don Valley.
