RUFC- Fenton trying to keep injury free

Rotherham United defender, Nick Fenton is trying to hold down a regular start in the first team after having been out for long stretches of time already this season due to injuries.

Speaking to Richard Wilson of The Advertiser, the thirty-year old said, 'I was gutted when I got injured against Shrewsbury the other week because I`d only just got back in the side. I did my left calf during pre-season and the other week it was my right calf.

'I`m not one who has had injuries in my career, I`ve been lucky but now I`ve had these two I need to do a lot of work to make sure it`s not a recurring problem. I`ve always looked after myself, eating right and doing the right things but I think I`ve got to start looking after my own body a bit more with strengthening and stretching work and keep on top of things.

'I got sixty minutes for the Reserves last week and, though some might say it was too soon, I wanted to play last Saturday. I didn`t have any problems and my fitness felt good.`

Talking about last Saturday`s defeat to Southend, he said, 'They had a few chances, which they are always going to get at home but I don`t think they caused us a lot of trouble but I don`t think we troubled them at all. The back lads, and I included myself in that, went too long and we were just trying to hit Ryan Taylor because he was getting so much joy off their French lad at the back. But we didn`t create enough and all round the game was just poor. We should be beating teams like Southend but we didn`t create one clear cut chance which isn`t good.`
