RUFC - Fans Interview - Crewe Alexandra

Rotherham United travel to play Crewe Alexandra on Saturday and Leedsrailwayman, a big Crew fan, and a friend to Vital Rotherham, got lumbered into answering our questions...

How long have you been supporting the Crewe?
37 years

What made you decided 'Crewe` was the team for you?
Didn't have a choice really as my dad started taking me, I will get him back at Xmas though as I`ve got him a ticket for a game!

What was the first Crewe game you saw at home?
Chester city we won 1-0 I think? 1973.

What was the first Crewe away game you went to?
Port Vale in the late 70's

Favourite ground ever been to
Wembley, The new one is excellent.

Ground you hate going to
None really I`ll go anywhere once, if I don't like it I won't bother again.

Have you been to any new grounds this season?
Been a couple of new ones this season, Stevenage, Burton & Chesvegas. May go to Morecambe in a couple of weeks?!

Dario Gradi - manager, caretaker manager, director of football - which is he?
ALL, I remember about fifteen years ago I even bought a ticket off him as he was in the ticket office selling tickets!

Is your Youth Policy still as good as it was - I'm thinking of the Robbie Savages, David Platt's and Danny Murphy's who've come through the youth scheme with the Railwaymen?
Yes. Westwood, Murphy, Tootle, Miller, Moore to name a few in the team who've come through the ranks. Nick Powell and Max Clayton and a goalie currently in the England U-17s So there's more to come..

Who should we be looking out for on Saturday?
Hard to say really! It depends which Alex team turns up? on their day they can play some really good football, but lack a bit of consistency & the defence can still be a bit leaky although they have improved a bit this season.

Thanks a lot for taking time out to do the questionaire for us, LRM

I'll be going on Saturday and will probably turn up in your club house - if you see me give me a shout (or run the other way as people often do!)

Very good, LRM, and I thought you was a young whipper-snapper lol! Not, as you have been following Crewe for over 35 years!!!
