RUFC - Nostalgia Society welcome Howard Webb
Rotherham United Nostalgia Society have a special guest tomorrow evening in World Cup Referee and Millers fan, Howard Webb
Howard took up refereeing in the local leagues in Rotherham in 1989 before progressing to the Northern Counties East League as an assistant referee, becoming a referee two years later. In 1996 Howard was appointed to the Football League as an assistant referee and two years later did the same in the Premier League and, around the same time, was promoted to the Football Conference as a referee.
In 2000 Howard was included on the National List of Football League referees, stepping up to the Select Group for the Premiership in 2003.
This year, he was the man in charge of the World Cup Final between the Netherlands and Spain, which Spain won one-nil in extra time. In the game, Howard gave out a record fourteen yellow cards and one red.
The meeting on Thursday will be held at The Green Dragon at Kimberworth and will begin at 8pm - everyone welcome, though it is expected to be a busy evening.
