'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Moore brought in Downing for cover

Rotherham United Manager, Ronnie Moore spoke about his other new loan signing, Paul Downing from West Bromwich Albion.

Speaking to MillersPlayer, Moore said, 'At this present time we've got Cresser (Ryan Cresswell) who is having a problem with his back and Fenners (Nick Fenton) who has a problem with his calf. So, I didn't really want to be left with Luke Ashworth and John Mullins as the only cover, because if one of them got injured we were going to be in big trouble.

'It's pleasing for us that West Brom have said that Paul can come to us and it's not like he's got to go straight into the first team which is unusual. They want the boy to be getting experience playing some first team football and if he's not playing then he's going to be on the bench so we're in a great situation with him. And, he's played at this level for Hereford last season so he knows what its all about.

'He's six foot one and is strong and reads it well and it's great cover for us. He can also do that holding role for us which gives us a player who can play in two positions which is nice. But, he is basically here for cover though the boy does want to play and if he comes here and trains with us and I think he's better than what we've got then he plays'
