RUFC - A Look Through the Archives

Let's have a look through the Millers Archives on this day

On this day last year, Rotherham United had just found out that they would be travelling to Southampton for the third round of the FA Cup - if they got past Luton Town in the second round replay. Of course, we know that didn't happen.

2008
The Vital Man of the Month for November two years ago was Dale Tonge, having been voted Man of the Match three times during the month.

The Millers were voted the Johnstone's Paint Trophy Team of the Round for the win against Leicester City earlier in the month. The Millers won two-nil with goals from Drewe Broughton and Dale Tonge in front of 4,255 fans at Don Valley.

2007
Manager, Mark Robins was voted Manager of the Month for November. Robins got the award after getting four straight wins in the month against Bury, Grimsby, Shrewsbury and Accrington.

Mark Hudson, who had joined the Millers in the summer, was nominated for the Powerade Player of the Month, after coming back from injury and scoring two goals. In the end the award went to Shrewsbury's Grant Holt.

Vital Player of the Month was Stephen Brogan who was voted the Man of the Match against Bury in the League and Forest Green in the FA Cup

2006
The rumour mill was saying that Celtic were interested in twenty year old Will Hoskins

The Reserves had recently played Huddersfield Town. Dave Hibbert scored on thirty minutes and eleven minutes later, Stephen Brogan curled a shot in to double the lead.

2004
It was on this day six years ago that Leeds United were in town. Leeds were far the superior side in the early part of this Championship game and, but for some outstanding saves from Mike Pollitt in the Millers goal, and the post, could have had five goals in the first ten minutes - Clarke Carlisle hitting the post three times.

The home side nearly took the lead in the opening minute of the second half when a long Shaun Barker's long throw was flicked on by Chris Swailes to Martin McIntosh who made a complete mess of an overhead kick. The loose ball fell to Michael Proctor but he skied the ball over the bar and over the roof. A goal did finally come on seventy-seven minutes when Leeds failed to clear a corner from Paul McLaren. The ball eventually fell to Barker who back heeled the ball towards the goal. It found McIntosh on the line and he side footed home.

At the final whistle the majority of the 8,860 fans went wild!

2003
On this day in 2003 the Millers beat Walsall at Millmoor, two-nil with goals from Chris Swailes (67 minutes) and Martin Butler (80 minutes).

1997
On this day thirteen years ago the Millers were winners at Millmoor again, this time against Colchester. Lee Glover scored on eleven minutes, only for Aaron Skelton to equalise just after half-time. On the hour mark Mark Sale put the visitors in the lead but a minute later Glover made it two-two. The winner was on seventy-three minutes from Alan Knill.
