Let`s have a look back at the last few years on this day...5th December

5th December 2009

This time last year, Rotherham United Manager, Ronnie Moore was voted League Two Manager of the Month for November, with the Millers getting nine points from three games. Moore said about getting the award, 'It means a lot but not just to me. It`s also brilliant for the club, the players and the backroom staff.`
In the meantime, Adam Le Fondre missed out on the Player of the Month with Laurence Wilson of Morecambe getting the award.

But, it looked like the 'curse on the Manager of the Month` was in evidence as, on this day, the Millers entertained Burton Albion at Don Valley, and, despite taking a two goal lead - both goals from Le Fondre, a penalty on thirty-nine minutes and a second goal on sixty-three minutes - in the end they had to settle for a point, as Albion got two goals of their own. Nick Fenton got a red card in the game too, when he lost his head with thirty minutes to go, and, for some unknown reason, lunged at Aaron Webster on the half-way line and was duly sent off.

It was two years ago that Millers Manager, Mark Robins introduced Steve Taylor to the coaching staff. Taylor had recently been scouting for Scotland Manager, George Burley.

5th December 2007

Three years ago was a great day for all Millers fans, as we all went to Saltergate on a cold Wednesday night and came away with three points! It was a good all round performance by the Millers with everyone pulling together. On eight minutes Pablo Mills hit a terrific shot towards goal, which, Roache, in the Spireites net only parried as far as Derek Holmes who smashed it into the back of the net in front of nearly one thousand five hundred travelling fans. On fifty-five minutes, Peter Holmes beat two defenders and got the ball to his namesake Derek who, in turn, headed it down to Mark Hudson who turned and doubled the lead.

Rotherham United were facing up to the probably fact that striker, Will Hoskins wouldn`t be with them after the January transfer window opened. With clubs such as Everton and Celtic showing interest in the twenty-year old, who had come through the youth ranks at Millmoor, fellow striker, Delroy Facey had some advice for young Will which included telling him to 'keep his feet on the ground` and 'gain experience` finishing by saying 'staying with the Millers would probably be a better option at this time in his career.` - (Did he listen? Did he 'eck)

5th December 2000

On this day ten years ago, the Millers entertained Chesterfield in the LDV Vans Trophy Northern Section First Round. Within the first half an hour of the game, the Millers were three-nil down. Goals from Ian Breckin, Mark Jones and an own goal from Paul Hurst looked to be sending the Millers crashing from the competition. But, a fight back was on the cards when Mark Robins scored three minutes after kicking off the second half and Alan Lee popped up ten minutes later to make it three-two. Four minutes from the end of the game Andy Monkhouse made it three-three and extra time had to be played. On the stroke of half-time of extra time, tragedy struck for the Millers when Ryan Williams scored the golden goal for the visitors to knock the Millers out.
