RUFC - Moore confident game will happen
Rotherham United Manager, Ronnie Moore says that he is confident that the game at Don Valley against Aldershot will go ahead tomorrow.
Speaking to MillersPlayer Moore said, 'If anything gets it called off it will be the conditions outside the stadium, which we can`t do anything about and needs to be organised by the council because of the dangers of supporters coming to the game. The last thing we want is to get the pitch done and people can`t get in because the roads aren`t right because we`d be totally disappointed with that.
'What we`ve got to do is concentrate on getting the pitch right and getting the stadium right. There will be one or two games off this weekend which gives us a chance to steal a march on one or two as well.`
Talking about the long lay off last season, Moore said they don`t want that to happen again, 'Six weeks off without a game is something we don`t want. Training was a nightmare. People kept saying 'well you`ve got games in hand` but then you draw them or you lose them and you are wanting to close the gap and it doesn`t happen. It also enabled Darlington, which was one of the games in hand, to practically change their side and they had six or seven brand new players when the game went ahead. And it`s not an excuse but they took six points off us and those six points for us and we`re not a million miles away from playing in the first division.`
Talking about training while the bad weather has been on Moore said, 'We were all in last Monday and then it snowed on the Tuesday and players couldn`t get in so they trained in local gyms from then until Friday. Luckily, they had the heart monitors and we`ve had them checked so we know they`ve worked hard. This Monday we went to the Institute of Sport and we had a great day on the track and thank them for allowing us to go in there, though I don`t think the lads will be thanking them because they did an awful lot of running. An hour and twenty minutes of pure leg work is hard graft. And then we want to thank Alan Irvine and Sheffield Wednesday because they allowed us to use the indoor dome there on Tuesday and we were in there again Thursday and we`ve had the balls out again which is great.`
