Rotherham United fan and World Cup Referee, Howard Webb has become an MBE in the New Years Honours.
The thirty-nine year old gave out fourteen yellow cards, one of which turned into a red, in this years World Cup Final between the Netherlands and Spain and, although was criticised by the Dutch players, many more sang his praises including FIFA President Sepp Blatter.
Speaking to The Sun about his award, Howard said, 'This honour tops of an amazing 2010 where everything just fell into place.` And he told the Mail online, 'I always say refereeing is about your team, and without the support and ability of my assistants Darren Cann and Mike Mullarkey I would not have been selected for the final, so this honour is for them too and it would be lovely if they could be recognised in a similar way at some point in the future.'
Howard has been a referee for more than thirteen years, but has been a Miller for much longer than that and, when he`s not working, he can often be seen among the rest of us Millers at Don Valley.
Vital Rotherham wish to congratulate Howard on his honour
