'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Does it matter who's scoring?

Rotherham United fans - and opposition fans - have been making noises about the recent lack of goals from top scorer, Adam Le Fondre.

Alfie, who was the Millers' top scorer last season, is well on track to being Rotherham United's, League Two's and even the whole of the Football League's top scorer this season with seventeen goals (sixteen in the league). But, surprisingly for him, he hasn't been prolific as he was last season.

So, why is that? And, does it really matter who's getting the goals as long as someone is sticking them in the back of the net?

Alfie's last goal was against Aldershot in December with the Millers only playing two games since then and he also had a three match spell before that when he didn't hit the back of the net.

Speaking to The Advertiser today, Alfie said, 'I think three games is the longest I've gone without a goal while I've been here. I'll give myself another game before I start to worry, though.'

Speaking about the two-nil win on Monday at Macclesfield, he carried on, 'I seemed to be outside the penalty box a little bit too much when I could have been in myself and wasn't happy. But, it's one of those things and if the team wins it doesn't bother me that much.

'We have a good spirit here and a good bond and it augurs well for the rest of the season.'

Could it be that Alfie has become more a team player? He's made a few of the goals for others and seems to running around more this season than last to me.

So, as I asked before, does it matter that he's not scoring?

I think it's great that the goals are shared. Obviously it's less of a worry should Alf get injured. As you say he has helped make a couple of goals and I think it can only be good for the morale of other the other scoring players. And perhaps also good for Alfie to know he is not quite as indispensable as he once was.
