RUFC - Mullins 'we've conceded too many'

Rotherham United defender, Johnny Mullins said that he thought the game on Saturday, where the Millers lost two-one to Southend at Don Valley in, was a poor performance.

Speaking to MillersPlayer, the former Stockport player said, 'We gave them a two-goal start and then had a mountain to climb. It was very disappointing, though I thought we fought back well in the second half but it just wasn`t to be. It was windy and the pitch was a bit bobbly but it was exactly the same for them. I think we shot ourselves in the foot really, when they went one-nil up in the first minute from our naivety really but we`ve got to learn from it and make sure it doesn`t happen again. I think the only chances they really had was what they scored from, I can`t recall Woggy (Andy Warrington) making too many other saves.`

Asked how he was enjoying his central role at the back, the twenty-five year old said, 'I`m enjoying playing with Fenners (Nick Fenton) but as long as I`m playing, I`m happy! I`m not the biggest so I`ve got to try and work it round other ways and I`m enjoying playing there. As the gaffer`s said, I wasn`t on top form when I was playing right-back before, for whatever reason, but I enjoy playing centre-half but if I get chance to play right-back again I`ll try and impress.

'The next three games we`ve got are big games. But Wycombe is a difficult place to go but the team that we`ve got and the players that we`ve got and the disappointment over the game on Saturday we are looking to go and put that right. There`s a lot of unfinished business as well from the defeat earlier in the season with the penalty at the end, which I remember quite vividly. That day we attacked well but didn`t defend too well so we`ve got to go down there and get Marsh (Marcus Marshall), Kev (Kevin Ellison), Lawsy (Nicky Law) and Alfie (Adam Le Fondre) on the ball and we won`t have any problems.`

The Millers have a few games coming up in the next few games, with re-arranged games on a Tuesday night and Johnny said, 'I quite enjoy that. You get Saturday-Tuesday and you`re ticking over in training and getting away from the missus for a couple of days! No, it`s good the games coming thick and fast and we`ve got some difficult games but it seems the harder teams we seem to play the better we play. It`s just imperative that we defend well away from home, the last couple of games we`ve conceded too m any goals and we`re looking to rectify that.`
