'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Moore pre Oxford

Rotherham United Manager, Ronnie Moore is still unhappy with the way his team defended on Tuesday night at Gillingham.

Speaking to Radio Sheffield ahead of the game at Oxford tomorrow, Moore first spoke about Andy Warrington who was taken off with a head injury during the game on Tuesday night. 'I thought it was a bad tackle,' said Moore, 'He's had five stitches in one cut, three in another and two in another. I didn't like the tackle and I think it's very lucky that he's OK. He'll want to play on Saturday but Jamie (Annerson) has come on and done OK and has made one or two good saves. And to have that back four in front of him on Tuesday would have been frightening for anybody. He's had to make saves that really he shouldn't have been asked to make and if we defend like we did the other night then we aren't going to win too many games.

'We know that everybody has a bad spell but when things aren't going right you've got to do something about it. But it's all about the others as well. The front two have to work hard and the wingers have to do the right jobs but I think they did all right the other night.

'You are going to be asked to defend away from home and last year away from home we looked like we could win anywhere and I think we've got a better side this year. But, defensively, we've never had that tight unit. We miss Cresser (Ryan Cresswell) there's no doubt about that but Johnny Mullins has been excellent for us but on Tuesday night the lad McDonald absolutely battered us. Everything you could ask to go wrong with the back four went wrong that night but you can't have four players off when you are away from home, certainly not your back four.

'Ryan has got the all clear. He can join in the physical side of things which is great for us and him. It's not that he's been doing nothing since he got injured he's been swimming and on the Don Valley track with Andy Liddell and he's done work with Denis (Circuit) and so if Cresser says to me he feels alright after the weekend then I wouldn't rule him out playing on Tuesday night.'
