RUFC - Moore pleased with second half performance

Rotherham United Manager, Ronnie Moore said he thought his team were 'fortunate` to come away with a win today.

The Millers won Burton Albion four-two, after twice coming from behind in the game and speaking to Radio Sheffield after the game, Moore said, 'I thought we were fortunate after our performance in the first half. One or two words were said at half-time and I told them that you cannot defend the way we defended in the first forty-five minutes and expect to win a game. You can not give anybody the type of start we have given Burton today.

'I was happy to get in at half-time two-one down because we could have been out of it. Johnny Mullins has made some tremendous interceptions in the first half and we were lucky. Our two in midfield were being over run but once we put it right at half-time I think there was only one outcome.

'But, I will give them loads of credit for the second half performance. We won nearly every first ball and we put them on the back foot. We got a little bit of luck with the penalty, although I thought it was a soft penalty. But, we battered them in the second half and I`d have been disappointed if we hadn`t won it. So bags and bags of praise for them for the second half performance. We were strong all over, the back two won the headers they needed to head and the 'keeper has hardly had a save to make in the second half.

'We knew it was going to be a high tempo game today because they`ve got a fantastic home record. We knew it was going to be tough and the first half was tough, but it was tough because we didn`t compete. The two wide men weren`t getting on the ball and taking people on but that all changed second half.

'Having a stronger bench today helped, there`s no doubt about that, and there`s still two to come. Once those two are fit we`ve got a strong squad. We`ve got a strong set of players but they just lacked that belief in the first half.

'We`ve got one of the strongest squads in this division but they have to prove it. It`s alright me saying it and if we play like the first half then we haven`t got it but playing like we did the second half then there is no one to beat us.`

Asked about any more loan players on the horizon, Moore said, 'You are always looking. We want promotion this season and The Chairman is adamant that if I see the tools I need then I can have them so I won`t disappoint him. If I think there is something there that needs to be tinkered with then we`ll do it.`
