What's it all about, Alfie?

What's it all about, Alfie?

Rotherham United's Adam Le Fondre is known for being a goal poacher. Give him room in the box with the ball and nine out of ten times it's in the back of the net.

But, more recently he's also become known for his goal celebrations.

From first becoming a Miller, Alfie has always run towards the Millers fans with his arms outstretched. Then, at Bury I think it was (though I stand to be corrected), he had been accused of going over a bit softly, so when he scored he stood in the middle of two other players who gently pushed him over!

Now, we have 'The Lawnmower'. He scores, the players go up to him, stand in a line and appear to be starting up a lawnmower and tottering off with it. Why? We have no idea!

I know some people can't see the point in football celebrations but I love 'em!

Since Roger Milla first danced round a corner flag pole many moons ago, we've seen Carlos Tevez jumping into the fans; Stephen Ireland dropping his shorts (more of that please!); The Robot from Peter Crouch; Rivaldo's bicycle kick; non-league's Aylesbury's duck dance and many players taking off their shirts. We've also seen variations of 'scissor, paper, stone' and babies being rocked (though I'd think twice before I handed my baby to any of those players!)

I know managers have banned players from doing somersaults after fearing injuries but, I think goal celebrations add to the atmosphere.

What do you think? Are you one of those who loves to see players enjoying their celebrations or do you think it should be a quick handshake to the goalscorer and all get back in their positions for the re-start?

All I've got to ask now is, 'What's it all about, Alfie?'
