RUFC - Andy aiming to be No. 1 at the new ground

Rotherham United goalkeeper, Andy Warrington is determined to earn himself a new contract at the end of the season so that he can play in the proposed new stadium back in Rotherham.

Speaking to David Beddows of The Advertiser, the thirty-four year old shot-stopper said, 'I go past the site where the new ground will be every day so I`ll see it getting built and I don`t want to be the one who misses out. I want to be number one playing in that first game at the new ground.`

Andy joined the Millers in May 2007, from Bury, signing an extension to his contract a year later and fast became a fans favourite.

'Having to spend these years away at Don Valley the talk has always been about going to a new stadium and it was always there in the distance. Now, having seen the plans, you want to be part of it and, personally, I would love it.

'By the time we leave Don Valley, I will have had four years playing there and, no disrespect, but you don`t want to be playing the last years of your career at Don Valley. When there`s something there, on the horizon, that`s what you want to be aiming for and I want to come back here.`

Warrington will be thirty-six when the Millers move 'back home` and reckons he will still be around then saying, 'Fitness wise and form wise I feel fine. You look at the likes of David James, Brad Friedel and Neil Sullivan who is forty-one and still playing at Doncaster. We`re talking about a higher standard there but I still maintain that if you keep yourself fit and have the desire you can carry on playing.`
