RUFC - Millers hope to appeal red card decision

Rotherham United will await today`s referee`s report before deciding if they will take the 'case of the strange red card` any further.

Defender Tom Newey saw a straight red after trying to get the ball from Barnet`s Izale McLeod so the Millers could take a free-kick. McLeod held onto the ball as Newey put his arms around him to get the ball and the Barnet player fell down like he`d been shot. The referee obviously didn`t see the incident as he went over to his linesman (who, in my opinion didn`t see the incident either) and came over to Newey and brandished a red card for a punch.

Speaking to The Star after the nil-nil draw on Saturday, the Millers Manager, Ronnie Moore said, 'It happened right in front of me and the sending off was a joke.

'Tom was trying to get the ball off their lad who kept holding on to it and he pushed him as he tried to knock the ball out of his hand and it was ridiculous how their lad went down

'I`ve checked out the video of the incident and there`s no punch. I just want the ref to be honest when he sees it again because we will appeal.`

Referee Geoff Eltringham is not stranger to brandishing red cards - Saturday`s was his twelfth of the season in just twenty-three games.
