'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Was it the right time to sack the manager?

Rotherham United have confirmed today what the whole world knew yesterday that Ronnie Moore and the club have 'parted company'.

There's been rumours galore about why Moore has gone and I wonder if we will ever get to know the truth. The Chairman, at the moment, seems to be pretty quiet, though there is time for him to make a statement.

I was one of those who never really wanted Moore back as Manager, though I did try and be as objective as possible. But, I could only repeat the words he used. And nine times out of ten that was to blame the defence, blame the midfield, blame the forwards for not scoring. Never, ever, until Friday did I hear him blame himself.

Last season it was 'judge me on my own players'. As I said after Friday evenings debacle, we've done that.

And to come out on Friday with the statement 'If I'd had a gun I'd have shot them' - well. OK it was said in the heat of the moment, we all say things we'd wish we hadn't when we are angry and upset, but as a professional football manager maybe he should have thought before coming out with that statement on live TV.

I'll admit to being surprised at the timing of the decision to remove Moore and Mullins. Sixth in the league with eight games to go. But, of course, we don't know do we what's gone off? Would it not have been better to wait until the end of the season? Or would the end of the season been too late?

And, of course, we have to remember that we have Ian Thomas-Moore, Ronnie's son, contracted to the club and we have to think how it's going to affect him?
