Rotherham United Assistant Caretaker Manager, Paul Warne said that the players were told what was going on while they were getting ready for a behind closed doors game at the B2net on Tuesday against Chesterfield Reserves.
Speaking to MillersPlayer after training yesterday, Warney said, 'They knew the script and they knew how we wanted them to play. We worked hard on Tuesday in the sun, played the game and done well. They had a good run out against Chesterfield Reserves and got Friday night`s game out of their system.
'Today we`ve just done a bit of head tennis really to jolly them up and get them into good spirits after last week. We tried a bit of psychology with them and then I`ve just had some fitness work with a couple of the lads and at the end we did some crossing with the six wide lads.
'The sun was shining, it was a pleasant day and everyone was in good spirits. Footballers bounce back quite quickly and I don`t think it`s anything to do with the fact that me and Lids are in charge that they are pretty happy. Its football and you have to put it behind you, you can`t sulk about it all week. They came in today (Wednesday) in good positive spirits and they`ve been as good as gold but that`s only what I expect because if not, them me and Lids will have words.`
Asked if they had decided what team to play against Lincoln on Friday night, Warney said, 'We`ve all got our opinions and all four of us have sat down and said what team we`d play and it was unanimous really. We`ll let the lads know tomorrow (which is now today) what the team will be. I expect there to be changes in personnel from Friday and changes in the way we play so watch this space and see what you think.`
One person who is unlikely to play is Warney himself. He explained, 'Since we talked to the Chairman I`ve only had about five hours sleep and I`ve been constantly on my phone so, as much as I`d love to play, I don`t think I`ll be in any physical state.`
