RUFC - Ten Applicants for Managers Job

Rotherham United Chairman, Tony Stewart has told David Beddows of The Advertiser that there has already been ten applicants for the Managers job - even though he has made it clear that Andy Liddell and Paul Warne will be doing the job until the end of the season.

'We`ve had ten applicants already,` Mr Stewart said, 'and some good ones among them.

'But, there will be no change to the management team. The guys are here for the duration to show what they can do. This is the chance of their lives and they know that. These guys have been with the players every day and they drive the players. And, if they surprise us all then we will be sitting down with them in the summer. If it doesn`t work out then we will be starting next season with a new manager.`

Talking about the timing of Ronnie Moore`s dismissal, Mr Stewart said, 'It was a board decision and it wasn`t just about Chesterfield. We`ve only take twelve points from the last ten games. That was telling us 'jam tomorrow` bit I didn`t believe it and the directors didn`t believe it. We all agree that we have a good side but they were not performing at the level we expected. So, we had to make a change.

'To fetch in another permanent manager at this time would have been too radical because he wouldn`t have had the time to bed in. The decision was made easier because we had the option of Andy Liddell, who has worked closely with the Reserves, and has a military discipline as well as being very knowledgeable.`
