RUFC - Lids 'it was a bit surreal'

RUFC - Lids 'it was a bit surreal'

Rotherham United Caretaker Manager, Andy Liddell admits to have been running on adrenalin last night after having little sleep in the last four days.

Speaking after the six-nil win over Lincoln to MillersPlayer he was asked how his first game had gone and said, 'It`s strange! Standing on the sidelines watching a team do that well, it`s a bit surreal to be honest!`

He made some changes to the side that lost five-nil the week before and dropping top scorer, Adam Le Fondre as well as skipper Ryan Cresswell, Jason Taylor and Callum Kennedy to the bench he explained, 'It was difficult but we got beaten five-nil last week live on Sky but those four lads can count themselves unlucky that they didn`t play.

'I had a word with Cress as captain because he`s Rotherham through and through. It was difficult but he came on and did fantastic.'

Ian Thomas-Moore played down the middle last night in place of Alfie and became an instant hit by scoring not only his first goal for the club but his first hat-trick too.

'We`ve got four good strikers and it is difficult to leave Alfie (Adam Le Fondre) out but I just felt that it needed freshening up a little bit. Nothing against Alfie, I`m his biggest fan, and in the box that lads dynamite and he can score goals for fun. But, I just felt it needed something different and luckily it paid off.

'The lads who did start have got to play like that to stay in the team because they are all good players. I`ve told them that to stay in the team they`ve got to work really, really hard. If you take anyone out of that team and put someone else in then they are as good as each other and it`s very difficult to do it. I can see why football managers don`t get any sleep and have heart attacks and lose their hair because I`ve found it difficult. Yes, I enjoyed it but I know there`s going to be moments when I don`t enjoy it.

'If we`d gone out there and played like that and lost one-nil I`d still be stood here saying the same things because they worked their proverbials off out there tonight and that`s all Paul Warne and me want

'We`ve got a good squad and its hard picking a team. We`ve got twenty-two players in the first team and it`s not easy. That`s why I`ve had no sleep for four nights but I might get a few hours tonight after that, thank god!`

Nick Fenton came off at half-time last night with a tight hamstring and will be monitored over the next few days.

Nice one...a bit of a Latics (Wigan) connection going on there, good luck for the rest of the season, here's hoping Lidds and Warney can take you up
