'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Warney before tonight's game

Rotherham United Assistant Caretaker Manager, Paul Warne said everything is fine in the dugout and dressing room.

Asked by Radio Sheffield if him and Andy Liddell are 'good cop, bad cop', Warney said, 'Well Lids, even when he's in a good mood, always sounds like bad cop but that's just his voice really. But we are really the same because we have the same philosophy on football and the same values on motivating players so what always happens in the general etiquette of football is that I let Lids speak first and then I'll speak and then anyone else who has anything to say. We don't come out with anything of the top of our heads we do speak about what we're going to talk about and we have a little discussion about what we`re going to tell the players and for one game they responded, but the next day, who knows?'

Asked about Nick Fenton, who went off injured on Friday at half-time, Warney said, 'I spoke to him and he says he feels one hundred per cent but he could last ninety minutes he could last three days we don't know but he says he feels good and you have to trust players. He's a good bloke and a good captain, he's not a liar and I trust him.'

Talking about the game against Shrewsbury, he carried on, 'If we play with the same determination we played with on Friday night it will be a good game. Shrewsbury don't play dissimilar to us, they are really a tidy four-four-two and they are pretty solid at the back. I don't fear them at all but I do have respect for them and we'll set out our team the way we want to play, the way we want to break them down and I think it will be a good competitive match and whoever wins the game will thoroughly deserve to. Our team will give their job lot again and then we'll pick ourselves up for Saturday.'

Perhaps the biggest dilemma of the night for Warney will be what to wear. 'I like to wear a suit to the game, it makes me feel like I'm going to work. I wore a suit to the game the other night and I put it on after but as soon as I get there I put my scruffs on because, unlike Lids, I have to earn a living so I go out and warm the lads up still! We haven't broke that routine and he just wears his suit because it makes him feel taller I think. At least for my kids and my family, from a distance it distinguishes which is Lids and which is me because if we both wore our grey suits there'd be all sorts of trouble.

'We've had it in the past where people think Lids is my ugly twin and he hasn't looked after himself as well and things like that. But, I'm happy to take the good looking mantel. Lids has got the title of Manager here and I've got the title of Assistant but he's the assistant to me in the good looking front and he's happy with that. He knows where he stands. So, yes it's all fine and dandy in the dugout!'
